Spring Performance Driving School

April 17th, 2001 at Thunderhill Raceway Park

When Sacramento chapter held the all NSX track day last September, Niello Acura was so pleased that it committed to holding another event near Labor Day in 2001; that event is currently scheduled for Monday the 3rd of September.  At the same time, we also wanted to do a spring event.  The NSX Club of America, Northwest Region’s Sacramento Chapter held a semi-exclusive track event at Thunderhill Raceway Park for NSXCA members and Golden Gate Chapter BMWCCA members.   Thanks to Jim Grinstead, we were able to secure instructors from the GGC of BMWCCA to make this a quality event.

Vince Gregory, the General Manager at Niello Acura, again offered to provide the Sacramento Chapter seed money to make this event possible at a low $175 registration fee.  The Sacramento Chapter would like to take this opportunity to thank Vince and the crew at Niello for all of their support.

The day of the school turned out to be bright and sunny with a light breeze despite warnings from the weather service that we could see showers.  The students were all there bright and early and ready to go.  There were a few hitches in the registration, like the forgotten wrist bands, but thanks to Siew Pheng's calligraphy, we made it through the day.

We had 59 students in 56 cars at the school.  32 NSX's, 1 Pantera, an Integra-R, a couple of Porches and 25 BMW's of assorted shapes and sizes.  With the usual contingent of BMWCCA instructors we also had 3 new NSX instructors, Al Terpak, Glen Ghomeshi and Hrant Koumoudjian.  Steve (Blackflag) Johnson kept all of the activities on a roll, and all of the drivers in line.

At the end of the day, everybody went home happy and fortunately, with out even any chipped paint.  We all learned a lot during the day and look forward to September when we can do it again.
